Agartala, Sept 8 (FD) Tripura ranked fifth in execution of National food Security act in the country, a minister has said.
Addressing a press conference at the civil secretariat Minister of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, Manoj Kanti Deb said Tripura secured the 5th rank for the execution of National food Security act in the country.
According to 2022 report of NFS state ranking index, as provided by central government, Tripura is first in NFS act implementation among the 14 special category states and union territories.
Mr. Deb informs that the government has decided to provide maximum of 25 kg rice to APL families instead of20 kg along with sugar, pulses and Tripureswari tea leaves. Plans to supply soybeans and self produced products through ration shops are being made as well.
He also said that after the installation of e PoS (Electronic point of sale) machine in ration shops, 62000 fake ration cards, which includes 2,81,000 people were detected. Due to use of such fake ration cards the central government incurred a loss of Rs. 50 million.
As for the development of farmers in the state, the food minister notified that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has been re issued in May 2021 and until July, 2022, 1, 84,931 metric ton rice has been provided free to 5,96000 families, who come under NFSA.
Fortified rice has been publicly distributed in April 2022 in Dhalai among the aspirational district. Other districts in the state would provide free distribution in the near future, said Mr. Deb
The food minister announced that plans have been made to open 408 new ration shops to provide easy public distribution in necessary areas in the financial year of 2021 and 22, with preference to female dealers.
